Formentera, our origin and inspiration.

Our origins

Majoral is an artisanal, Mediterranean-inspired jewellery firm that began as a vital and creative project on the island of Formentera in 1974.

Influenced by the values and liberating spirit of the nineteen-seventies, Enric Majoral and Dolors Ballester found in craftsmanship a tool to connect with everything primal; a return to the legacy of Mediterranean cultures and to a coherent and sincere way of living.

Over the decades, the Majoral project has integrated their daughter and son, Savina and Roc, forming a family business that keeps intact its link to the island and its popular imagination. A popular imagination that lies at the heart of their particular yet timeless contemporary style.

Enric Majoral, alongside his son Roc, design and use the materials, research and their own techniques developed in the workshop as an expressive medium. They turn their creations into small artistic objects: jewellery that will accompany us all our lives.

Majoral’s strong link with nature and culture means we are aware of the responsibility we have towards our environment. For this reason, we make more ethical and sustainable jewellery, governed by a series of values that are inherent to our work.

Jewellery can also be a driving force for social change, which is why at Majoral we continue looking for the best ways to practice the art of jewellery, contributing to people’s wellbeing. Selecting the materials carefully enables us to limit, or even eliminate, the negative impacts that our work could have on both the environment and society.

Most of the metals and gems we use follow certain standards that guarantee their quality and origin. On this matter, since 2014 we have been consumers and distributors of Fairmined-certified gold and we are registered members of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). This status means that we adhere to its Code of Good Practice (CGP) and we accept the supervision of its compliance by means of external audits. We also publish the Ethical Code and the Economy for the Common Good Balance Sheet.

Having our own home-based production provides us with the possibility of producing jewellery with the maximum quality. Working with people who share our values enables us to build bonds of trust. This is why we form part of the Origin group, where we work as a network to promote responsible jewellery, and we continue with our "Creat amb..." project, collaborating with artists from different disciplines to bring different and enriching points of views to the world of jewellery.
