The minimalist jewellery of Majoral

The effort of simplifying the design, style and forms of the items of jewellery to produce pure and essential forms means taking on the challenge of seeking the maximum expressivity with the minimum resources, creating elegant, simple and harmonious pieces, capable of boosting the personal image of whoever wears them.

Minimalism has been a trend in art and design. Eventhough we can identify the expandion of this artistic movement in the 1950s, through the work of the designer and architect Ludwig Mies van de Rohe, minimalism has taken on different expressions throughout history. Japanese design has always been an exponent of minimalist art, above all in the early 20th century, with the emergence of the De Stijl artistic movement.

In the field of jewellery, minimalism has always been closely intertwined with contemporary jewellery. With the desire to create jewellery that achieves maximum expressivity with minimum resources, minimalist jewellery is characterised by producing elegant and simple pieces, that connect with the public.

Majoral, since its beginnings, has found an almost perfect alignment between creativity, expressivity and minimalism. The creative evolution of Majoral has combined the artisanal vision in a cradle of Mediterranean tradition, along with the experimental and expressive need of the creator. This symbiosis has led Enric Majoral to grasp the essence of things, concepts and life, giving light to pieces of minimalist jewellery. Let’s look at some of them.

Mini: the beauty of jewellery that isn’t there

The Mini collection is probably the maximum expression of Majoral’s minimalist jewellery. At least in the visual sphere. Produced with Fairmined gold, the collection shows timid and subtle threads of gold, which evoke that small reflection hidden between strands of hair. The Mini collection is a homage to that beauty that you cannot see at first, to the elegance of hiding that beauty.

Fil Pla: the simplicity and elegance of the line

We find another example in the Fil Pla collection. In this case, Enric Majoral creates jewellery enhancing the stylistic power of the line, giving life to elegant and seductive forms. The jewellery is complemented with a satiny finish, in a way that the line allies itself with the playful light of the finish.

Posidonia: the nature of Formentera made into jewellery

The island of Formentera is always present in the jewellery of Majoral. Mediterranean nature and its character coats the singular jewellery with its minimalist timelessness, and we find the maximum exponent in the Posidonia collection. Made with simple strips of flexible metal, in gold or silver, they emulate the ancestral marine plant of Formentera, the star of the Mediterranean seabed. Weightless and subtle, the minimalism of the simple metal strip wraps around the body.

Pinassa: a homage to the most austere leaf of the Mediterranean

In the creative work of Roc Majoral we also find collections with a high minimalist component. One of the most outstanding examples is the Pinassa collection; jewellery that reproduces the delicacy of the pine leaf, predominant in the Mediterranean coast.

Espais: dynamic and weightless pieces that float in space

One of the latest collections by Roc Majoral is the Espais collection, a bold set of minimalist jewels. The circular geometric form of the Espais collection resembles the lines of any design project, evoking balance, stability and comfort. However, when worn over the body, the master lines of the Espais collection are suspended, drawing structures in the air that seem to float.
